No Secrets. Just Chickens. | Wannabe Farms
Where do your chicks come from?

We purchase our chicks from a hatchery we've partnered with that is a days drive away. They receive absolutely no vaccines or antibiotics—just pure, healthy starts to life.

What do your birds eat?

Our birds were initially fed a non-GMO, corn-free, soy-free diet. Now, we feed a certified organic diet that is still non-GMO, corn-free, and soy-free. All birds processed starting June 2025 are fed this organic-certified feed. Legally, we can’t call the birds "organic," but we can say they are fed an organic diet. It’s important to us that you know the difference.

Where do your chicks start their life?

They start in a warm brooder on our farm for 2–3 weeks under heat lamps while they grow strong and feather out before moving to pasture.

What happens after the brooder stage?

At 2–3 weeks of age, our chicks are moved to pasture where they live in mobile chicken tractors. They’re moved daily to fresh grass, foraging naturally just like chickens should.

Do you process birds on your farm?

Not yet. Georgia law requires processing at an approved facility. We're working toward building our own. In the meantime, we use a tiny, family-run USDA processor that aligns with our values.

Isn’t USDA processing commercial?

Not with our processor. Their facility is about the size of a three-car garage. They started as a deer processor and expanded to poultry to help small farms like ours.

Are any chemicals used when processing?

After humane slaughter and water rinsing, the USDA requires an antimicrobial rinse to reduce harmful bacteria like Salmonella. Our processor uses a vinegar-based solution—typically peracetic acid or lactic acid—which is approved for organic poultry and leaves no residue. No chlorine, no bleach, no nonsense. Just clean processing done right.

Is this a commercial farm?

Absolutely not. Wannabe Farms is 100% family-run. Our five kids help raise the chicks and do daily chores. This is grassroots, small-scale, and faith-driven.
